Volcanic ashes as construction material


Researchers from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid are collaborating with Universidad Católica San Pablo and Instituto Geológico, Minero y Metalúrgico (INGEMMET), both of them located at Arequipa (Peru), in a new project to develop construction materials from volcanic ashes. The project, entitled “Manufacturing, characterization and evaluation of geopolymers made from volcanic ashes for construction applications” is being financed by Peruvian Government through CONCYTEC.

Maria Fernández-Álvarez, from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, has presented the research “Effect of nanoparticles added through ball-milling to a polyester organic coating on its wear resistance” at 13th Coatings Science International 2017. The conference was held in Noordwijk (The Netherlands). Results were carried out under the frame of KrEaTive Habitat project (financed by Interreg SUDOE, project Ref. SOE1/P1/E0307).

Researchers from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid has presented the paper “Wear resistance of polypropylene-SiC composite” 6th International Conference on Fracture Fatigue and Wear (FFW 2017). The conference was held in Porto (Portugal). Results were carried out under the frame of KrEaTive Habitat project (financed by Interreg SUDOE, project Ref. SOE1/P1/E0307).

Researchers from Universidad Carlos III de Madrid has presented the paper “Dissimilar bonds with a tough epoxy adhesive for construction industry” at 4th International Conference on Structural Adhesive Bonding (AB2017). The conference was held in Porto (Portugal). Results were carried out under the frame of KrEaTive Habitat project (financed by Interreg SUDOE, project Ref. SOE1/P1/E0307).





Proyecto europeo de innovación
KrEaTive Habitat


El Centro Tecnológico de Componentes (CTC) es el coordinador del proyecto europeo de innovación KrEaTive Habitat. Una investigación conjunta, con un presupuesto que supera el millón y medio de euros, que pretende promover la aplicación de alguna de las KET’s o Tecnologías Facilitadoras Esenciales (materiales avanzados, nanotecnología y biotecnología) a los distintos materiales tradicionales del hábitat arquitectónico (piedra, cerámica, madera, etc.).
